Info: There is no doubt that Ukr.tele.kom indeed can be called a free growing and open-minded international music project. The list of contributors and collaborators is constantly changing and it is nearly impossible to say who is currently involved in it now.
Expropriating its name from the major Ukrainian telephone monopolist, this is a worldwide sound-source-exchange collaborative email-art project, and moreover – an applied philosophy dealing with (tele-) communication at a distance. It was Initiated in Odessa, Ukraine by Andrei Sechkovskiy and Sergei Klein in 2002, since then it undergone many reformations, had several tours and happenings all around Ukraine and Europe and of course was jamming and recording with many live performance contributors, including: Mark O'Leary on electric guitar, from Cork City, Ireland (Leo Records, UK); Andreas Werliin on percussion/drums and Joel Grip on double bass/violin, both from Stockholm, Sweden (Umlaut Records, SE); Steven Garling on drums & darbuka from Berlin, Germany; Pankifared on keyboards; and many-many more!
Despite its variability there is the one person who remains constant on board: Andrei Sechkovskiy - the one who did most part of the electronic "compositions" for this release. Actually the content of this limited release is being compressed from 2 CD's which were given as two different "Compositions" and "Improvisations" demos early this spring to Arterija. As you may see it consists both of these - Andrei's compositions and live performance snippets, homemade improvisations and computer made collages. This project has a definite idea and a philosophy based on interaction and communication between people & machines, collective & solo musical events and is really free thinking, so, in other words, nearly everyone can participate.
There are only 50 copies made, with a quite extraordinary design, reproducing the slight rawness but nevertheless forward-looking evolution of this formation. More info on Ukr.tele.kom and its members is here.
